DISCORD BAN IN THE PHILIPPINES LIFTED BY CICC
MANILA, Philippines —
The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has lifted the ban on Discord in the Philippines following discussions between the government and the online communication platform.
According to Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda, Discord coordinated with the DICT and CICC and committed to taking immediate steps to strengthen protections for young users against online threats.
The CICC also said Discord committed to working with Philippine authorities to improve online child safety measures. The Philippines is also expected to have a “green lane” to help authorities coordinate with the platform in identifying and monitoring potential threat actors.
Before the ban was lifted, authorities had called on Discord and Reddit to establish a local presence or representative in the Philippines. The move was intended to improve coordination on online safety concerns, including child exploitation and violent extremism.
Discord became inaccessible through some internet service providers following the government's order, affecting Filipino users who rely on the platform for gaming, communities, school, work, and communication.
As of September 24, 2026, the CICC has lifted the Discord ban, allowing access to the platform to be restored while Discord continues its cooperation with Philippine authorities.
